Starting a private practice

I can practice independently, now what?

Congratulations on reaching this milestone! Starting your independent practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate (LMFT-A), Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is an exciting journey. Here are some steps to help you get started:

1. Verify Your Licenses and Credentials

Ensure that all your licenses are up-to-date and meet your state's requirements for independent practice. Each state has specific regulations, so double-check with your state licensing boards for LMFT-A, LPC-A, and LCSW.

2. Choose Your Business Structure

Determine the legal structure for your practice, such as sole proprietorship, partnership, or LLC. Each structure has distinct legal and tax implications. Consulting a legal professional can help guide you in making the best decision.

Remember, a Doing Business As (DBA) designation does not protect the owners' assets.

I suggest obtaining an Employee Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) instead of using your Social Security Number (SSN).  Using your SSN could lead to problems if you ever get sued.

Here is the link to the IRS to file for an EIN.

Please contact me for an individualized 30-minute session to assist you for only $75. You can also get a full hour for $150.  Contact me for availability, then make your payment here for 30 minutes.  Here for 60 minutes.  Life after Licensure Meeting Social Workers
